About this deal

I believe Lady of Starfire, book 5 and the final book in the series, is due to be published this year so this is almost a complete series for all you binge-readers.

This is a new adult, dark high fantasy romance. It follows the FMC Scarlett who is a trained assassin seeking retribution for her mothers murder. Scarlett basically demands that Ryker train her and then punches him until he agrees. Then they bargain with each other so that they each give a truth at the end of each sparring session because they need to get to know each other??? I don't really know. I would have liked it better if they just trained and didn't talk but whatever. So Ryker give her a bunch of details about his life (too many details sometimes I was like bro what are you doing shut up) and she lies about her favorite color 😂Somehow driving in England is dangerous because of the narrow roads??? Dude, what? Where? I guess only if you 're in a medieval town but don't generalize that as the whole Britain. This country may be in shambles but the roads are still being kept to perfection. Had the author written driving in England is confusing because everything is on the wrong side, he11, I'm with you all the way. The couple and inner circle go out to the city for dinner and dancing where she gets to know him more Usually I'm okay with main characters being bitchy and not giving men anything but Scarlett had this habit of becoming enraged when Ryker refused to give her all the details that she begged for immediately. It started really pissing me off. If you're going to be secretive and vindictive then you should afford that same grace to those around you instead of acting like an entitled brat.

Scarlett learns of so much. Be it history isn't always honestly written, or the fact that she's not who she thinks she is.This is easily one of my top reads for the year. I hope the rest of the books can live up to the expectations set forward by the first.

Adding to the metafiction elements of the story are Leiber's frequent references to Jung's descriptions of the Anima (female self) and Shadow (hidden self). These are elements that existed in Leiber's work nearly since the start of his career in the late 1930s, according to Bruce Byfield's Witches of the Mind: A Critical Study of Fritz Leiber. The main difference in Our Lady of Darkness is that, unlike much of his earlier works, the references to these figures are explicit, rather than implied, and at times supported by direct quotes. Another pretty cage. Scarlett, who has been whisked away to the Fire Court, finds she is in the hands of the guy that murdered her mom. The Prince of Fire. Thrust among the Fae court she loathes, she’s at their mercy. She does not know what plans he has for her, however she’s got some plans of her own. She only needs to decide just how thoroughly she wants to break the guy yet. If only he did not tempt her with every touch, every breath, and every kiss. It is another dangerous game that gets her wondering if she is going to be the one broken irreparably by the end. The spice scenes in this were so so. One of the guys in the harem was portrayed as a big Dom and how other women did not sub well yet the Dom/Sub relationship went no where between him and Harlow. There is a tampon/period scene that was just gross. The word "sprayed" was use excessively in reference to female ejaculation.Ok so im roughly halfway through and what I really dislike about her is how impulsive she is. She has slapped Sorin countless times just because he won't tell her the name of a lady she thinks is suppperrrr important. And sure it is. But that doesn't warrant you slapping someone and stomping your foot in anger or shouting at them every time they refuse to answer. Like, why can't she do something more witty or clever or unexpected that somehow jolts the answer out of him? Obviously her way of interrogation is not working, so she should change it up a bit. I would regard her as more smart if she did so. But she just seems like a robot programmed to do the exact same thing each time, which is frustrating. Despite being both English and Lords, their dialogue seems hardly British-English (the word lad was thrown in there once, just for the sake of trying I guess) and they sounded hardly upper class, let alone aristocrats. Generally they reminded me more of your average American thug to be honest. Again, this took away from any possibility of these books being immersive. Just have them call each other mate and you 'd already have done half the job. Had the author inserted words that the British upper class uses or talked about pronunciations and accents (which for the rich and aristocrats is usually quite distinct compared to lower classes), there would also have been some evidence of trying. But no. There was zero effort there. No research... again. Blood Marks (weird Marks no one understands but the main character learns how to DRAW and use them with her blood)

It is a rare day when I DNF a book. I really, really wanted to like this series and I tried TWO times to finish the second book but I just couldn’t get into the writing style. The first book was better but still annoying. I had high hopes the story and characters would improve in the series but those came crashing down.

a well written private make-out scene that was almost going to progress into explicit spice until an interruption (grrrr) When she becomes the target of a rival organization’s attempt to overthrow the Lords, her redemption is forged in blood. There was NO chemistry between Sorin and Scarlett. Just a book and half of weird ass interactions that were constantly luke-warm at best and then straight cold. The sex scene between them after it FINALLY happens between them is appallingly unsatisfying. The one between Azrael and Tawlyn had more chemistry than that.
