About this deal

For heavier riders, I’d be concerned the Sleuth DLX Canvas could be too flexible, and may not be able to offer the support they’re looking for from a mountain bike shoe.

But beyond my obviously fragile ego, the Sleuth seemed appealing cause it was also supposed to perform better on a bike than your average sneaker. This innovation ensures the shoe lasts longer while leaving no marks on indoor floors, making it ideal for various environments. But the Powerline doesn’t just have extra fabric, Ride Concepts also added some D30 material around the asymmetrical ankle collar (higher on the inside, lower on the outside). Credit and debit card refunds must be made to the card used for the original transaction, cheque payments will be refunded in cash but due to banking restrictions can only be refunded at least 14 days after the original purchase date. Same issue with ski boots… I can fit narrower midfoot boots/shoes on, but after several minutes of descending, it feels like someone’s been beating on the bottoms of my feet with sticks.Although the Sleuth sports an easy-going skate shoe style, it also packs some features you'd expect in a more hardcore riding shoe. Again, there are plenty of people who just want a really sticky rubber, and I think those people should still look to Five Ten’s Stealth Mi6 and Stealth S1 / Phantom compounds. The Sleuth does work notably better on a mountain bike than, say, a Nike SB Stefan Janoski (my go-to casual shoe).

Please be patient with us as we need to receive this confirmation from the suppliers before we can process your request for a replacement/refund.The Shift’s laces only cover a small portion of the shoe, and it was hard for me to dial in a very snug fit. The Five Ten Sleuth is a true fusion of style and function, engineered with technical cycling features wrapped in an effortless design. With that said, we found the Micro-Dotty Marathon soles held up as well as Five Ten's other sole options and they only showed minor wear after our test rides were all wrapped up. I found that I could transfer power to the pedals with almost the same amount of efficiency that I could in the Five Ten Freerider Contact. That said, the Sleuth grips the pedals / pins better, it offers a bit more heel and toe protection, and its extended laces provide a more secure fit than most of those shoes.

Please note that some assembly will be required, which we recommend be carried out by an experienced mechanic. That nice soft and plush feel felt great at first, but turned out to be a bit fatiguing on harder rides. But it’s worth noting if your local riding spots tend to be substantially hotter, or if you’re on the other end and consistently ride in wet conditions. They’ve been in the lineup for quite some time, but this latest version of the DLX Canvas pairs that rubber with an unusual upper material composed of Parley Ocean plastic; up-cycled marine plastic waste recovered via Parley interception and cleanup operations in coastal areas of the Maldives.Particularly if you’re not planning on spending a lot of time on rough trails and / or want a shoe that will truly see 50/50 use on and off the bike, that makes the Sleuth worth a look. The company quickly acquired a reputation for both quality and unparalleled performance in part thanks to their patented STEALTH® outsoles, their shoes soon began gracing the feet of the likes of Greg Minnaar and Sam Hill carrying them to a world cup victory.

On that note about the suede upper, the Sleuth DLX is not a super breathable, water-resistant, or quick-drying shoe. Overall, the Powerline is a very solid option for people who (1) want some of the added protection of a mid-height shoe, (2) don’t want that to come with a bunch of extra weight, bulk, or extremely poor breathability, and (3) don’t demand the absolute highest-grip rubber. On the bike, that means I have a very accurate idea of where my feet are on the pedals, and even where the pins are under the shoe. Most clipped in riders will be fine with the regular Hellcat but pros and racers looking for all the margincal gains they can get, the Hellcat Pros will see you very well. That said, looking at the sole and top-down view, I think it’s safe to assume that the Powerline is narrower through the midfoot and forefoot vs.properly-fitting shoe when you’re hurtling down a rock garden could be the difference between impressing all your friends and leaving a rock-shaped impression in your chest. Please Note: Shipments sent to the European Union are sold exclusive of VAT and may be subject to local import duties and taxes. I’ve heard outside reports of sole durability being a concern, but I haven’t had any issues in over two years now. Our mission is to share this sport—without commercial influence—through photos, essays and long-form stories that make you think, “I need to go for a ride. The overall durability of the Sleuth seems good if the shoes are primarily kept in their intended environment, like riding easy trails, around town, and casual use.
